What is an international arrest warrant and how is it linked to Interpol?

I often see the term “international arrest warrant” used interchangeably with Interpol Red Notices, but I’m pretty sure they’re not the same thing. Can someone explain how they’re actually connected, and whether one automatically leads to the other?

They’re related but not identical. An international arrest warrant is issued by a national authority, while Interpol acts as a communication platform between countries. A Red Notice may be based on such a warrant, but it doesn’t replace judicial procedures. I found a clear breakdown at https://intercollegium.com/
, which explains how warrants, notices, and extradition mechanisms interact under international law.
