Is There Money Sitting in Your Old Utility Deposits?

Hey everyone — random but important question: is it possible I have money sitting in old utility deposits from apartments I lived in years ago? I moved around a lot in my 20s (lots of rentals, different cities), and I vaguely remember paying deposits for electricity, water, and internet. How do you even start checking for those and getting the money back? Feels like I might be leaving cash on the table.

When you contact the companies, have your old account numbers ready (if you still have old bills or emails). Even if you don’t, most can search by name + previous address.
→ For internet or cable companies, even small deposits or prepaid balances might still be sitting there.
