Ignoring dashboard lights cost me a weekend and $500

One of the worst mistakes I made was ignoring the check engine light when it first came on. I figured it was something minor – maybe the gas cap wasn’t tight. Then I noticed occasional stuttering at low speed, but I still didn’t go in. Well, a week later the car stalled while idling and wouldn’t restart. Turns out it was a failing crankshaft position sensor – a part that would’ve cost $80 and taken an hour to replace. But by waiting, it shorted out, affected ignition, and led to more damage. Towed the car, spent all Sa ... ay at the shop, and walked out $500 lighter. Now I don’t ignore any lights – not even ABS or tire pressure. Lesson learned. If you're the kind who lets warning lights sit for a week, read this article https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2025/07/why-regular-car-repair-can-save-you-thousands-in-the-long-run/ – trust me, it’s not worth the risk.
