People seeking to live a better life often wonder if happiness is a matter of luck or is it a matter of learning the qualities of an enlightened person. According to Thomas Edison "Ladder of Success" some people are born into wealthy families and others born into poverty. What this means is that the circumstances of one's birth does affect one's path on the ladder of success. One who is lucky may have a bright future by having the right people in his life and he also experiences positive emotions like joy, happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment etc. On the other hand someone who is unfortunate may have to go through a lot of difficulties in life and may lack a happy family life, lack a happy and fulfilling career, and also experiences negative emotions like anger and frustration.
Happiness Achieving enlightenment also requires having a good health. A person with poor health, especially an ill-health person, can never achieve happiness. There must be some inner balance between body and mind. Emotional health, physical health and mental health are three aspects that affect one's well-being. One must therefore be healthy mentally and emotionally to help others in achieving enlightenment. Positive attitude, appropriate thoughts and positive communication helps in keeping the mind and body in balance.
Suffering No one can ever really be happy because in the whole world there are suffering people and enlightened people are among them. Some enlightened people do not even suffer and they are happy despite the fact that they are suffering. The suffering they have undergone can teach other people how to suffer less and even have the courage to endure pain. Some enlightened people have even achieved enlightenment and went on to establish businesses and charitable organizations.
