Hey everyone,
I’ve recently been exploring minimalist horror games and came across something fascinating — Granny Game
It’s a browser-based game where you must escape from a creepy old house while avoiding a blind, yet terrifying, old woman who reacts to every sound you make.
What really surprised me isn’t just the fear factor — it’s how effectively the game builds tension with almost no dialogue, no cinematic cutscenes, and no fancy graphics. It proves that good horror doesn’t always need big budgets — just good design and atmosphere.
So here’s what I’m curious about and would love your insights:
Why do you think games like Granny manage to scare players so effectively, despite their simplicity?
Do you believe sound design and player vulnerability matter more than visuals in horror?
Any other minimalist horror titles you think achieve the same level of impact?
Would love to hear your takes — especially from those who’ve played Granny or similar indie horror games.
Try the game here: https://grannygame.org/ and share your thoughts!
