How do you like the idea of creating a game based on local legends and tales?

I have an idea that I have been thinking about for a long time, and I decided to put it up for discussion. How do you feel about creating a game based on folk legends and myths, but not with a typical Western fantasy presentation, but something more local and unusual?
I am not talking about loud plots like gods and epic battles, but rather about small, forgotten stories from villages, secrets of rivers or forests that were heard only from grandmothers. It seems to me that there is soul and atmosphere in this.
What do you think, is there a demand for such games? And how to convey such plots to a wide audience without losing the meaning?

The topic is really strong, thanks for the tip on the article! I am from Jharkhand, and since childhood we were told legends that cannot be found anywhere. For example, about the forest spirits who punished for cutting down trees. Imagine a game where the player needs to negotiate with the spirits of nature, and not just defeat them. I also like the idea that traditional music can be not just background music, but part of the gameplay. The player opens a new plot line by guessing the rhythm of the drum - it sounds cool! Such projects can be not only entertaining, but also educational. The main thing is to make them interesting and dynamic. I am sure that the future of interactive stories lies in such approaches.
