Mental toughness: staying focused during long, day-long matches

I once completely lost focus during a 6-hour match. I started strong in the morning, but by lunch my mind wandered, and I misjudged a straight delivery, getting out cheaply. After that game, I realized physical stamina isn’t enough — you need mental drills too. I started practicing visualization between overs and breaking matches into mini-goals, like focusing only on the next 5 balls. That little shift kept me locked in longer.

Sometimes it’s wild how much unpredictability plays into mental toughness. You can plan every drill and prep perfectly, but a sudden over, a shout from the crowd, or a bowler’s new tactic can throw your focus off entirely. That randomness is part of what makes long games so mentally exhausting yet oddly addictive.
